The short version: Seam does not collect anything. The text you paste is translated on your own computer and never sent anywhere. There is no account, no analytics and no server that holds your data.
What we collect
Nothing. Seam has no account system, no sign-in and no telemetry. We do not receive your text, your translations, your settings, your file paths or any identifier for you or your device. There is no server that stores information about you, because there is no server involved in using the app.
Your text and translations
Text you paste into Seam is passed to a translation model running locally on your own machine. It is not transmitted over the network at any point. Translations, along with their source text, are saved to a database file in your user folder on the same computer so that your history is available the next time you open the app.
This data is entirely under your control. Deleting a translation in the app removes it from that file, and uninstalling the app or deleting the folder removes all of it. Nothing is synced, backed up or copied elsewhere by us.
When Seam uses the network
There is exactly one situation in which Seam makes a network request: downloading a translation model that you have explicitly chosen. Models are large files and are not bundled with the app, so they are fetched from a public model hosting service the first time you ask for one.
- This download only ever begins when you start it yourself. Nothing is downloaded automatically or in the background.
- The request retrieves a file. It does not send your text, your settings or any information about you.
- Once a model is on your computer, Seam never needs a connection again. You can disconnect permanently and it will keep working.
The hosting provider serving that file may record standard web server information such as your IP address, in the same way any website does when you download from it. That is outside our control and we receive no part of it.
Diagnostic log
Seam writes a log file on your computer to help diagnose problems, recording events such as when the app started and whether a translation failed. It stays on your machine and is never transmitted to us. You can open, inspect or delete it at any time. If you choose to email us about a problem, you may attach it yourself, but nothing is sent unless you send it.
Children's privacy
Seam does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Since the app collects nothing, any change would most likely be a clarification rather than a change in practice.
